Constitutional law is a higher order law comprising principles and the precedents establishing legal basis for a system of government. Its knowledge entails an insightful overview of the constitutional provisions laying down the composition of a government and its authority, power of the governing bodies within a legal system, and the division of, and the limitation to such power to govern among different organs of the state. In this regard, the discussions will focus on the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 and the course leads to an informed awareness to the underlying established constitutional principles and their implications for the citizens fundamental rights, and it will also link individuals' rights and their impact on structure, power and authority of government and the governing bodies in Pakistani legal system.

Learning outcomes:

1: The course is intended to inculcate doctrinal analysis of constitutional provisions as laid down in the Constitution of Pakistan 1973.

2: At the end of the course, student would be enabled to have an overview of state, federal and provincial legislative bodies, their composition, process of legislation at the centre and at the provincial level.

3: The course would also give an insight into the executive power of the Government at both levels-centre and province, the extent of executive power and the relation between both central and provincial governments.

4: The  readings in this course would highlight the constitutional framework for the structure of judicial authorities, the composition and procedure of constitutional institutions such as Council of Common Interest, National Economic Council, and National Finance Commision.

Total marks: 100

Midterm exam/ termpaper: 30 Marks.

Sessional activities ( quizz, presentation, assignments, class participation) : 20 Marks.

Final Term examination / Termpaper: 50 Marks.
