This course develops the students' drawing skills and awareness using a structured approach to drawing through the study of the human figure. Students use a variety of media including graphite, charcoal, Conte, and pastels in their drawing exercises to develop insight into the form, structure, and gesture of the subject. The study of human anatomy poses and postures to articulate expression and concept. This course develops drawing skills and attitudes appropriate to future applications of art practice.

Objectives

  • Manipulate various drawing materials and media in response to the human figure to produce portfolio appropriate pieces. 
  •  Produce drawings competently using line and value. 
  • Judge accurately shapes relationships and proportions, in drawing the human figure. 
  • Apply and demonstrate a basic understanding of the structure and general human anatomy (skeletal and musculature), in the production of drawings. 
  • Produce drawings that interpret the figure in an expressive and perceptive manner. 

 Assess the body of work and compile life-drawing components for the Art and Design Fundamentals portfolio.

Contents:

1.Media: Exploration of various drawing surfaces, such as newsprint, bond, Canson, with various drawing media, such as graphite, Conte,
colored pencil, pastels, charcoal, Wolfe's carbon
pencils and ink.
2. Gesture, contour, and the human figure.
3. Anatomy and form.
4. Line, tone, and shade.

5. Perspective.
6. Composition, proportion, and figure in the environment.
7. Portfolio development
