This course addresses general theories of social change in connection with different approaches to the study of globalisation from a macro- or micro-sociological perspective. It reviews and discusses empirical research developing theories of globalisation in relation to the transformation of the city and the environment; the development of new media and communication networks; migration flows and postcolonial identities, as well as the restructuring of labour markets and changing relations of class and gender.
