This is the 3rd practice course in the social work professional foundation sequence. The course is designed to acquaint students with primary and secondary methods of social work practice. It focusses on group work covering types of groups, group work principles and role of group worker in its fields of application. It also explores community development principles, phases and role of community worker. It also touches upon social research, its steps, tool of data collection and importance of social research in social work practice.
This course aims at enabling students to conceptualize the nature, mission, knowledge base, value base and practice methods of the profession. Further, they should be able to identify and to deal with unsettled issues in the conceptualization of social work practice in developing countries and to establish practice theories that are pertinent to the local practice situation.
