Pharmaceutical Microbiology course is designed for Pharm D students in two semesters. Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Immunology i in 3rd semester is about basic knowledge about microorganisms, basic microbiological techniques and environmental microbiology. It is concerned with the morphology.classification, beneficial and deterimenta effects of these organisams. It deals with the Microbial diseases and their treatment.

Objectives of this course are

  • To give basic understanding of the subject Microbiology, its historical background, it’s various Disciplines and application of the subject in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • To give theoretical  concepts and practical  training to students about performing  common microbial techniques like staining, culture transfer and isolation, media preparation, pure culture isolation , sterilization and susceptibility testing .
  • To provide knowledge about common microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, fungi protozoa etc.
  • To Provide basic understanding about Environmental Microbiology ( Air, water and soil)
  • To give a basic understanding of cause, pathogenesis, prevention and treatment of  common infectious diseases.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

This course provides basic understanding of the normal and common pathogenic organisms associated with human infectious diseases to make appropriate and effective on-the-job professional decisions.

Provide understanding of appropriate microbiology laboratory techniques for identification, diagnosis and research studies on microorganisms.
