Aims and Objectives:

Roughly two billion people speak English today, nearly a third of the world’s population. Across all continents, the various international functions of the English
language make it an absolutely indispensable tool for millions of speakers. In many countries, largely those with a colonial past, English is also an official or co-official
language, used in areas such as education, national media, politics and business.More recently, English has also emerged in hybrid varieties, mixtures of English
and local languages with various communicative purposes, these often used as a symbol of modernity and multicultural identity, and enjoying covert prestige .

The study of World Englishes consists of identifying varieties of English used in diverse sociolinguistic contexts globally and analyzing how sociolinguistic histories, multicultural backgrounds and contexts of function influence the use of English in different regions of the world.

So, at the end we would be able to understand the English language with relation to the world.
