Course Objective:

To understand the terminology related to Inferential Statistics, and to understand the role of sampling theory in estimation of population parameters and testing of hypotheses concerning parameters.

To provide with the background in different Estimation Methods of population Parameters on the basis of a sample.

To develop an understanding about the set of rules that lead to a decision culminating in the acceptance or rejection of some statement or hypothesis about the population.

To provide with the necessary skills and competencies in using computer statistical package to assist in performing different inferential procedures required in a statistical analysis through practical application.

The main objectives of the course are to enhance students‟ competency in application of statistical inference in solving business management problems and to improve their level of quantitative approach. It provides the basis of scinetific invetigation.

Course Contents in Brief:

It is based on inductive reasoning. This course is built upon the statistics concepts, principles and techniques that are useful in business management. It includes the teaching of sampling theory, research process, types of data and data collection methods, variables and their measurement scales, data analysis, sets and probability concepts, probability laws, probability distributions and statistical tests etc. This semester syllabus will be restricted to the test of chi square test, z test, t test and analysis of variance. Students should learn about the Descriptive analysis, correlation and regression analayis and use of SPSS in this course. Student should learn hypothsis formulation and testing process.

Learning Outcomes:

After completion of this course, students should be able to know:
1. Sets and probability.
2. Sampling theory and estimation theory.
3. Testing hypothesis and regression.
4. The F-distribution and the students T-distribution.
5. Computer applications in statistics.
