DESCRIPTION

This course offers an exploration of the structures, systems, effects, conventions and genres of contemporary media with an emphasis on improving media literacy to foster critical and educated consumption of media. This course will provide an insight into contemporary mass media and the organizational structures and how the developed world maintains its media hegemony over developing countries through their modes of communication e.g. wire services, TV channels, radio, satellites, newspapers, and magazines.

PRE-REQUISITE

Students should have basic knowledge of media evaluation and the contemporary world media and hegemony of the developed world.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Sectional:        20 marks

                        (Attendance+ Presentation+Assignments)

Mid:                30 marks

Final exam:      50 marks

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Following are the rules and regulations that students have to abide by:

  • 80% of class attendance is compulsory to sit in the final exam.
  • Class timing should be strictly followed.
  • Assignments and presentations must be covered in the given time.
  • Originality of work would be ensured in case of assignments.
