The main function of human resource management is to enable students to understand the human resource management in detail. This course also provides an introduction to the various functions of human resource management, including compensation and benefits, staffing, recruitment and selection, research, labour relations, training and development, health and safety, the influence of government legislation on industry, and human rights legislation and employment equity.

The course also provides an overall understanding of organizational behavior concepts to assist students in recognizing organizational structure, culture and development concepts so that they are better equiped to perform in the organization, make informed decisions and effectively manage supervisors and subordinates for enhanced performance. A section on business ethics is also included to ensure conceptual understanding, need and application of these concepts in daily business transactions.
