Introduction to Psychology (Minor)

 The course has been designed to ensure an effective orientation of students toward the discipline of psychology so that they may come to appreciate the diversity of the subject and its pragmatic significance. This course provides an introduction to the concepts and theories of psychology and to the application to real life situations. Topic include history, research methods, sensation, perception, Consciousness, stress and coping, learning, memory, motivation and emotions. Main objective of the course include to make students familiar with the essential features of human personality; to inculcate a relevance of personal sense of Psychology as a subject with the potential of gaining batter insight into one’s own self and others. Upon the successful completion of course students will have an introductory knowledge of selected area of basic psychological enquiry and they will be able to; differentiate between scientific and non-scientific information about human behavior and mental processes, describe major developments and research methods used in psychology; Explain psychological processes involved in sensation, perception, learning, memory, emotion, states of consciousness and health; Analyze the variety of factors affecting sensation, perception, consciousness’, learning, memory, motivation, emotion and health; and can apply psychological concepts and principles to situation in everyday life.
