Introduction to Course

Statistics is the science of conducting studies to collect, organize, summarize, analyze and draw conclusions from data. Statistics is a group of methods used to collect, analyze, present and interpret data and to make decisions. Biostatistics is the branch of biological science which deals with the study and methods of collection, presentation, analysis and interpretation of data of biological research. In biostatistics, statistical methods are applied to solve biological problems.

The aim of the course is to describe the basic concepts and knowledge of biostatistics. This course deals with method of summarization and description of data, averages, dispersion of data. This course provides the knowledge of basic experimental design including the layout and analysis of different designs, tests of significance and introduction to comparing of means.

Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the basic concepts of descriptive statistics and experimental design
  • Demonstrate the ability to collect and present the data
  • Exhibit skills in analysing data and interpreting the result
