This course is designed to introduce principles, concepts and applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS): a decision support tool for planners and managers of spatial information and to obtain information on the earth from deci-meter level to km level locally and globally.Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) are essential tools for mapping and integration of geology, geomorphology, lithology, soil, drainage, lineament, slope, land use/cover and other related features of a region. The students will be inroduced to a broad introduction to the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) & Remote Sensing within the geosciences. The relationships between geography, geology, and society will be pursued. Students will be exposed to both pertinent computer and analytical skills common to GIS & RS, including both field and computer based projects that explore spatial data (regions, rocks), and their associated attributes (feature data).
