In Geriatrics, the course covers normal aging process, physiological and psychological  changes and their effects on daily living activities (ADL) and Instrumental Daily living activities (IADL).This course addresses both the medical and rehabilitation management of the geriatric patients. Relevant tests and measures for determining impairment and differentiating the diagnosis based on the specificity and sensitivity of the assessment instruments as related to patients with geriatric conditions.

Learning Outcomes:-

Upon completion of course, students will be able to:

1) Comprehensive geriatric assessment

2)  Discuss disease processes, particularly common diseases, chronic diseases, and those, which endanger life or have serious complications or consequences, relevant to geriatric population

3) To learn how a multi-disciplinary team works in the care of the elderly in Geriatric Assessment Unit.

4) To understand mental status assessment of the elderly patient, and how and when to apply a standardized assessment tool.

5) Common musculoskeletal disorders and related disabilities , Common neurological disorders and related disabilities

6) Stroke and related disabilities ,Gait and Balance disorders and related disabilities

      ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

          This course with course code 403 is combination of four sub subjects

         403 A :Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy       403 B : Sports Physical therapy

         403 C :Geriatric Physical Therapy                  403 D: Pediatric Physical Therapy

          Assessment Schedule : 3 tests & one send-up written examination before the annual exam


          Internal Assessment (based on class tests, class performance and attendance): 30 Marks as a whole course.

             Written: 135 Marks 

              Practical: 135 Marks
