Introduction: 

It includes Enterobacteriaciae which cause infection both within and out side the GI tract

Other gram negative rods are related with respiratory tract diseases and zoonotic diseases

Most members of gram negative rods are Facultative anaerobes, some are strict aerobes and some are strict anaerobes

Some of the gram negative rods are part of our normal flora and some are present in our environment as well

They are related with nosocomial and hospital acquired infections
