Introduction to Course:
This course is designed for students whose career direction will require knowledge of dyeing as a textile designer in the professional prerequisites of dyeing industry. Working with fabric specimens (fabric swatches) will be used in conjunction with the assignments to enhance the skills required for dyeing with design. Many changes are brought about constantly by technical advancements in the ever-changing environment of this highly technical industry. Still it is very necessary to know and learn the manual methods and techniques that are still using in industry for designing textiles.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:
1. | Develop a fundamental understanding of the elements of textile and surface design. |

3. | Explore ancient forms of dyestuff and mordants. |
4. | Experiment with various Shibori techniques together with an understanding of cultural significance in dyes and patterning. |
5. | Apply dye techniques to various textile surfaces. |
6. | Demonstrate professional workshop practice and knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety requirements in the Print workshop. |

Materials: Dye colours, Dyeing Pan, Wooden spoons, Thread, Clips, Rubber bands, Fabric
Class attendance policy:
All students must attend class regularly to gain maximum from the instructor. Each Class bear its own importance, the thing once taught will never repeated. Every day brings a new experience that helps to flourish you. Attendance is mandatory. Arriving to class late and/or leaving early three times will count as one unexcused absence. To avoid unexcused absences, please consult with me before you miss class.
Late assignments:
Assignments not submitted on the designated due date will be considered late. Assignments grades will decrease by one full grade for each class the project is late. Assignments will not be accepted if missed due to an unexcused absence.
