Course Objectives:

Photography – II is an advanced course in digital photography. This course is designed to help students focus more on compositions techniques, explore digital photography in relation to fine art and learn about turning photography into strong business. In this course, students will create a photographic portfolio. This portfolio is broken up into 3 sections which will allow students to show a fundamental competence and range of understanding visual concerns and methods. In addition to that, this course will:

  • Encourage creative and systematic investigation of formal and conceptual issues.
  • Emphasize making photographic art as an ongoing process that involves the student in informed and critical decision making.
  • Develop technical skills and become familiar with the functions of the visual elements.
  • Become independent thinkers who will contribute inventively and critically to culture through the making of art photography.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon successful completion of the program, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate artistry by creating images that evoke an emotional response.
  • Apply the principles of lighting and colour theory to a variety of photographic scenarios by measuring, evaluating, and adjusting light and colour to create quality images.
  • Apply the mechanics of exposure to control light and influence the final product.
  • Apply principles of composition to produce professional images.
  • Select and use photographic equipment and technologies appropriate to the task.
  • Demonstrate effective use of written, verbal, and non-verbal communication, employing relevant knowledge, skills, and judgment in a business setting.
  • Work as a professional, maintaining high standards of practice, make ethical judgments and decisions, follow legal requirements, and adapt to a rapidly changing work environment through demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and professional associations.
  • Work effectively individually and as a member of team, demonstrating time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Develop proposals and organize and orchestrate photo shoots through the successful management of resources and time.
  • Apply business processes through the application of accounting, marketing, sales, data management, and human resources (HR) practices and principles.
  • Use and adapt to a variety of computer software and hardware for both photographic and business purposes.

  • Exploring Composition (Rule of Thirds, Shooting Vertical vs. Horizontal, Choosing a point of interest, Adjusting your angle of view, Placing subjects off center, Lines, Backgrounds, Foregrounds, Composition, Light, Positive and negative space, Framing, Color vs. Black and White Photography, Balance, Texture and Pattern, Symmetry, Perspective)
  • Hands, Feet, Geometric Shadows, Organic Forms and Texture
  • Global Issue or Theme Project
  • White on White Eggs, Lines, Glass / Transparency
  • Global Issue or Theme Portfolio in Practice

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

  • Sessional: 20   (Power Point Presentations, Photography Class Assignments and Photography Assignments for Homework)
  • Mid exam: 30
  • Final exam: 50

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • 75% Attendance will me must.
  • Cell Phones should be silent during class.
  • Students will bring their laptops in computer lab.
