History of the USA can broadly be categorized into the discipline of area studies. This course is intended to apprise the students about various aspects of history of USA including economic, cultural, demographic and religious. Because of the peculiar nature of its history, American experience can be written ‘from the bottom up’ perspective. In terms of time span, the history of United States may seem shorter as compared to other regions but the diversity of its people, physical features and flora and fauna is remarkable. Moreover a particualr aspect which can be instructive a lot is the origin and growth of the idea and its realization of a modern republican state as a result of a successful revolution against the colonial rule of the British. The United States then emerged initially as a dominant player in the international politics with its entry in the World War I and later in the World War II. However, its decisive role in the WWII made it a superpower of a bipolar world representing a competing muscle measuring between Capitalism led by US and Socialism led by Soviet Russia. This course will enable the students to analyze dynamics of the development of polity in the new World as against the old World.
