The course will focus on the introduction of basic concepts in education and the ideological, Philosophical and Psychological foundations of education. The major focus will be on developing an understanding of the education and major terminologies. The course will also include guidance and counseling as an essential component of education. Emphasis will be given on analyzing various Sociological, Political, Economic and ideological forces that influence the process of education in our cultural context. This course will also be used to develop the ability in prospective teachers to interpret knowledge with its historical, philosophical, Ideological and Social context, which will lead to produce critical aspects of education both within and outside the school.

Unit 1 Introduction to Education: Definition of Education, Education as process and product, Functions of education, Elements of Education and Types and modes of Education

Unit 2 Foundations of Education, Islamic Education: Chronic reforms and teachings of Prophets, Philosophical foundations, Relationship between philosophy and education, Main philosophical thought, Contributions of Philosophy towards education, Sociological Foundations, Relationship between education and sociology, School and Society, Psychological foundations, Relationships between Education and Sociology, Contribution of Psychology towards Education

Unit 3: Aims of Education and Curriculum Aims of Education (spiritual, Moral, Intellectual, Economic, Vocational, Social and cultural); Curriculum, Definition, Difference between Curriculum and Syllabus Components of Curriculum (Aims and Objectives, Context and content relations procedures, characteristics of good text books); Methods of Teaching’ Different methods of teaching-evaluation, What, Why, When and how to access, Characteristics of good curriculum

Unit 4: Learning and Methods of Learning

Unit 5: Society, Community and Education; Meaning of Society and Community, Social functions of School, Interrelationship between Society and Education; Role of Education in Development of Society
