Description

This course is designed for beginners and those who have minimal painting experience. Students will learn the basics of handling oil paints and brushes and explore a variety of techniques and subject matter (landscape, still life, and abstraction). The course will cover the fundamentals of composition, tone, and blending colors. One-on-one and group discussions will also touch upon concepts crucial to the creative process, including critical thinking, discipline, spontaneity, metaphor, and others. Technical demonstrations and short writing projects will complement our studio work. The goal of this course is to give students the basic tools and ideas necessary to begin their own personal painting practice.

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an ability to paint observationally, appropriately applying an understanding of basic painting and drawing skills, gesture, proportion, and artistic anatomy.
  • develop and understand good composition principles
  • develop and understand technical skills such as simple drawing needed to render well composed 2-dimensional designs
  • develop your creative and visual abilities in their  practice
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the perspective, architecture, cityscape.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Sessional: 20   (PowerPoint Presentations, Practical Assignments and Homework)

Mid exam: 30

Final exam: 50
