Description and objective
This course is based on different statistical concepts and techniques that are useful in the social sciences. The course explores the basic concepts of statistical theory and its applications. This course provides a rigorous foundation in the principle of probability and mathematical statistics underlying statistical inference. Special emphasis is given to the study of parametric families of distribution, univariate as well as multivariate. This course focuses on the method of statistical inference including parameter estimation and hypothesis testing.
The aim is to train students intensively in both theoretical and practical aspects of statistics, to bring them in contact with basic concepts and methods and to create a problem-solving attitude with the aid of statistical methodology.
Learning Outcomes
The course is heavily oriented towards the formulation of mathematical concepts on descriptive and inferential statistics with practical applications. Successful completion of this course, students are expected to demonstrate a full understanding of important statistical concepts and methods and be able to conduct basic statistical analyses. Students are expected to demonstrate these specific basic skills learned in the course: (1) Estimation procedure; (2) the logic of hypothesis testing; (3) selecting appropriate statistical procedures; (4) Logic of Nonparametric test
